The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to open two segments of the nearly 18-kilometer Davao City Coastal Bypass Road in June 2026.
Once operational, the new segments are expected to ease traffic congestion and significantly cut travel time for motorists between Toril and Poblacion in Davao City from around 45 minutes to just 15 minutes, according to the DPWH.
The coastal bypass road is also expected to serve as an alternative route for motorists, helping them avoid heavy traffic along the Davao–Cotabato Road, one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
The project forms part of the government’s broader infrastructure program following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to expand bypass roads and access routes nationwide.
The initiative is intended to improve mobility, reduce travel time, and lower fuel consumption for commuters and transport operators.
DPWH officials said the opening of the road segments marks a key step in improving connectivity in Davao City, with additional portions of the bypass still under development.
