57 firework-related injuries have been recorded nationwide since December 21, including two cases involving children who lost fingers after firecracker explosions ahead of new year celebrations.
The rising cases prompted the Department of Health (DOH) to renew its warning that fireworks are dangerous whether legal or illegal.
The DOH said the two minors sustained severe burns and amputations in separate incidents involving different types of firecrackers.
An eight-year-old child lost the index finger and thumb after being struck by a whistle bomb, while a 16-year-old suffered the loss of two fingers after a 5-star firecracker exploded.
Health officials noted that all recorded victims of firecracker-related incidents sustained multiple injuries, including burns to various parts of the body.
Although the number of cases is 49 percent lower than the 112 injuries logged during the same period in 2024, the DOH stressed that the risk remains significant and urged the public, particularly parents and guardians, to keep children away from fireworks.
