Two individuals initially linked to separate incidents during an anti-corruption rally in Quezon City have been temporarily released as authorities continue their investigation, police said Wednesday.
The individuals include a protester accused of punching a police officer and a bus driver allegedly involved in an incident that left a policewoman pinned during the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) gathering along EDSA on Tuesday, as reported by RH Jecelle Ricafort
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Public Information Office chief Police Major Jeniffer Gannaban said investigators are still verifying whether the two were directly involved in the reported altercations.
Meanwhile, two police officers injured during the earlier confrontation remain confined at the Philippine National Police General Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
“Dalawa yung nasagutan kahapon, yun yong binibigyan ng lunas ngayon sa PNP-GH. After ng kaunting girian na yon hindi na nasundan, naging peaceful na yung maghapon,” she said.
Gannaban said tensions were limited to a brief morning scuffle and did not escalate further.
She added that authorities consider the overall situation to have remained largely orderly.
“Nasabi natin na assessment kahapon is generally peaceful talaga ang nangyari maliban sa incident ng umaga na naagapan naman kaagad through coordination,” Gannaban said.
The anti-corruption rally by the INC group continues its second day on Wednesday, July 1. Organizers said at least 100,000 individuals are expected to join their movement.
