Separate fires broke out in Pandacan and Tondo, Manila early Wednesday, stretching firefighting resources and prompting a third alarm in both areas before one blaze was declared out, authorities said.

The first fire was reported at 3:47 a.m. at Residencias de Manila Building 1 along Jesus Street in Pandacan and was raised to second alarm minutes later. By 5:14 a.m., the blaze escalated to third alarm and was still being battled as of 7 a.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

BFP said its initial investigation showed no occupants were inside the condominium-type building when the fire started on the fourth floor and spread up to the seventh floor.

About 25 families were affected by the fire at Residencias de Manila Building 1, authorities said.

Residents said it took nearly an hour before firefighters arrived at the scene, while rainy conditions were observed in the area during the early morning blaze.

A second fire was reported at 4:11 a.m. along Dagupan Extension in Gagalangin, Tondo. It was quickly raised to third alarm by 4:38 a.m. before being declared under control at 5:14 a.m.

Firefighters said suppression efforts in Pandacan were hampered as personnel and equipment had to be split due to multiple simultaneous incidents, including another reported fire in Pasay.

As of 7:28 a.m., residents from nearby Building 3 at Residencias de Manila were assisting responders in containing the fire at Building 1.

Authorities said the cause of both fires and the extent of damage or possible injuries were still under investigation.
