In an episode of Experts Opinion, the winners of the Youth Creatives Challenge Season 2 under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)—Alrass “Pluma” Amarillo, Kervin Kane Estrata, and the Isla Dinagat Creators—shared their experiences in songwriting.
One of the main topics discussed was how to start the songwriting process, where it was highlighted that there is no single formula. According to them, a song may begin either with a melody or lyrics, as it depends on your feelings and how you want to express the message.
The participants also emphasized that emotion plays a vital role in creating a song that truly connects with listeners. Kervin explained that the key is the authenticity of emotion, because when feelings are genuine, it becomes easier for people to relate.
They also shared that while personal experiences are not always required in songwriting, songs become more meaningful when they come from real emotional sources. However, negative emotions can also be converted into positive messages that inspire others.
In the end, they encouraged aspiring songwriters not to be afraid to showcase their talent and pursue opportunities because, with the right platform, even simple creations can be heard and inspire many people.
