Senator Erwin Tulfo has filed a resolution urging the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to declare Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan persona non grata over his remarks suggesting China could prevail if it used force against the Philippines.

Tulfo, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, described the ambassador’s statements as a serious concern, citing the implications of threatening the Philippines with the possible use of force.

In his resolution, the senator emphasized that diplomatic relations between Manila and Beijing should remain anchored in mutual respect, constructive engagement, and peaceful dialogue.

Tulfo called on the DFA to recommend to the appropriate authorities that Jing be declared persona non grata, citing what he described as serious threats against the Philippines.

The move follows renewed concerns over the Chinese ambassador’s remarks amid ongoing tensions between the two countries over maritime disputes in the West Philippine Sea.
