Senator Raffy Tulfo has filed Senate Bill No. 2157, or the “Student Internship Allowance Act,” seeking to provide a one-time ₱10,000 financial assistance to students who will complete their required internship, practicum, or on-the-job training (OJT).
Tulfo said the proposed measure aims to help student interns shoulder daily expenses such as transportation and food, especially since many companies benefit from the services and work rendered by interns without providing allowances.
The senator stressed that the grant would help ease the financial burden on students and their families, particularly those facing economic hardships. He also shared that several individuals have sought assistance through “Raffy Tulfo in Action” while undergoing OJT due to a lack of financial support.
Under the proposed bill, qualified beneficiaries include students from public and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) accredited by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), as well as Technical-Vocational Institutions (TVIs) accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), whose internship or practicum is part of their academic or certification requirements.
Tulfo urged fellow lawmakers to support SB No. 2157 to ensure that student interns across various sectors and industries receive adequate assistance during their training.
