Tropical Storm Pilandok slightly slowed down Wednesday as it moved east-northeastward over the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 5 a.m. Tropical Cyclone Bulletin, PAGASA said Pilandok was last located 1,205 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon at 4 a.m.

Pilandok is forecast to remain a tropical storm as it moves northwestward during the forecast period and is expected to stay far from the Philippine landmass, according to PAGASA.

The weather bureau also said the storm is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Thursday, Sept. 3.

The storm was moving east-northeastward at 10 kph, carrying maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gusts of up to 80 kph. It had a central pressure of 998 hectopascals.

Strong to gale-force winds extended up to 580 kilometers from the storm’s center.

No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal was raised over any part of the country.

PAGASA warned that heavy rainfall and severe winds may still affect areas outside the storm’s projected landfall point and forecast confidence cone. It also noted that the storm’s track may still shift within the limits of the forecast cone.

The agency advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices to take necessary measures to protect lives and property and urged residents in areas highly or very highly susceptible to hazards to follow evacuation and other safety instructions from local authorities.

PAGASA said the public should continue monitoring heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm and rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information issued by its regional offices.
