Tropical Storm Basyang battered parts of Northern Mindanao, triggering severe flash floods and landslides that have left several dead and disrupted transportation in affected areas.

Iligan City, placed under Wind Signal No. 2, experienced heavy rainfall beginning late Thursday night and continuing into the early morning hours. Overflowing drainage systems, combined with mud and debris, inundated low-lying neighborhoods, sweeping away vehicles and causing widespread damage. The Tubod Bridge remains impassable due to floodwaters and floating debris, while two bridges in Barangay Abuno, connecting Iligan to Tagoloan municipality, were reported to be totally washed out, isolating nearby communities.

In Cagayan de Oro City, a landslide in Barangay Abusant claimed the lives of four people, including a couple and their two children. Authorities also reported that a woman was found swept away in Agusan del Sur. Rescue teams and local disaster offices continue to conduct search and clearing operations to ensure the safety of residents.

The storm’s impact comes as Iligan City marks the 12th anniversary of Typhoon Sendong, which devastated the city in 2011 and left more than 1,200 casualties. Local officials are urging residents to remain vigilant, avoid flood-prone areas, and follow evacuation orders as cleanup and relief efforts continue.
