A truck driver was injured after trying to calm his rampaging co-worker at a trucking service facility in Barangay Santo Niño, Marikina City, on Saturday afternoon.

According to Marikina City Police Acting Chief Pol. Col. Jenny Tecson, the incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on February 22, as reported by RH Edniel Parrosa.

However, authorities received the report at about 8:00 p.m., leading to the swift arrest of the suspect.

Police said the stabbing stemmed from a workplace dispute after the 32-year-old suspect, identified only by the alias “Gleen,” reportedly arrived at the company premises drunk to complain about his duty assignment.

Authorities said Gleen had just returned from a day off on Saturday and allegedly became enraged when his helper refused to accompany him on a trip, reportedly because the helper was already scheduled to travel with another driver.

A 48-year-old co-worker intervened in an attempt to calm the suspect. During the confrontation, however, Gleen allegedly grabbed an ice pick and stabbed the victim.

The victim sustained three stab wounds to the back of the head, neck, and back, as well as a laceration on his left ear.

He is currently recovering at Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center. Police reported Monday morning that the victim remains conscious and in stable condition.

The suspect is now in police custody and is set to face charges of frustrated homicide.
