A low pressure area (LPA) being tracked outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a tropical depression as of 8 a.m. Saturday, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the system was last spotted about 2,675 kilometers east of Northern Luzon.

The tropical depression packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 55 kph. It is moving east-southeastward at 15 kph, according to PAGASA.

Forecasters said the system remains outside PAR and is not expected to have an immediate direct effect on the country, but it will continue to be monitored.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Dolphin has exited PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Information Domain (TCID), but the weather bureau said it is still under close observation.

PAGASA noted that Dolphin continues to exhibit a “wobbling motion,” or erratic movement, which could lead to its re-entry into the monitoring domain.

Authorities advised the public to stay updated through official PAGASA bulletins as weather conditions may change.
