The Trillion Peso March 2.0 was “generally peaceful” and concluded at 6:00 PM on Sunday, November 30, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
In a statement, Acting PNP Chief PLTGEN Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. extended his appreciation to the organizers, marshals, and participants for exercising their rights with discipline and respect for public order.
“As expected in gatherings of this scale, there were isolated attempts by a few individuals to disrupt the flow of the programs. These were immediately addressed by our quick response teams, preventing any escalation that could endanger the public,” Nartatez said. “We thank the vigilant citizens who helped alert our officers to these attempts.”
As protesters dispersed along the streets of EDSA, Nartatez said their focus shifted to securing major thoroughfares and ensuring that the returning crowd could travel home safely. Moreover, traffic units, civil disturbance management teams, and station personnel remain on standby until all areas are fully cleared and normal movement is restored.
“The events today demonstrated that peaceful assemblies and effective law enforcement can go hand in hand. When rights are exercised responsibly and public safety is upheld, we strengthen our democratic institutions,” Nartatez stated.
Before the crowd dispersed, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) reported that no untoward incidents occurred during the said demonstration.
PMGEN Anthony Aberin, the NCRPO Regional Director, also said that the protest on Sunday was “generally peaceful” with no physical contact or tensions between cops and protesters.
“This can be attributed to the constant coordination, the constant communication, between the organizers, the rally leaders, and sa ground commanders ng PNP,” Aberin said.
