A tricycle driver was arrested for allegedly stealing two cans of vegetable oil from a restaurant in Malate, Manila.
In a report by RH Boy Gonzales, the suspect was identified as "Jonel," 30, a resident of Tondo.
According to the Manila Police District (MPD), a security guard spotted another man exiting the restaurant’s employee entrance carrying two cans of vegetable oil belonging to the restaurant.
The man reportedly loaded the cans onto a tricycle driven by Jonel, but before they could leave the premises, the security guard intercepted them.
The suspect was arrested on the spot, while his accomplice, identified only as "John Doe," managed to escape and is currently being sought by authorities.
The security guard sought assistance from patrolling officers from the Remedios Police Community Precinct.
Recovered from Jonel were the two 16-kilogram cans of vegetable oil, estimated to be worth around PHP 4,000, and the tricycle he was driving, which reportedly had no license plate or registration papers.
The suspect was brought to the Ermita Police Station, where charges of theft and violations of the Land Transportation and Traffic Code (RA 4136) are being prepared for inquest proceedings at the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office.
