The countdown is on for one of the Philippines’ most anticipated religious traditions: the Traslacion of the Jesús Nazareno. Set for Friday, January 9, millions of devotees are expected to join the procession in a show of faith, devotion, and Filipino tradition.
Preparations kick off at the Quirino Grandstand on Wednesday, January 7, with a volunteer mass and the beloved ‘pahalik’, a ceremony where devotees venerate the image of Jesus Nazarene.
The ‘pabihis’, or ceremonial vesting of the image, will also take place that day, while the fiesta masses begin on the afternoon of January 8.
The Misa Mayor, or main festive Mass, will be celebrated at midnight on January 9, leading into dawn prayers and the start of the procession.
For those planning to join or watch the Traslacion, here’s the official 2026 route:
-
Starts at Quirino Grandstand
-
Left on Katigbak Drive, then right on Padre Burgos Avenue to Finance Road
-
Straight across Ayala Bridge, left on Palanca Street
-
Right on Quezon Boulevard, then a series of turns through Arlegui, Fraternal, Vergara, Duque de Alba, Castillejos, and Farnecio Streets
-
Continuing through Arlegui, Nepomuceno, Concepcion Aguila, Carcer, Hidalgo, Bilibid Viejo, Gonzalo Puyat, J.P. De Guzman, Quezon Boulevard, Palanca Street to Quezon Bridge, and Villalobos Street
-
Ends at Quiapo Church
Authorities are ensuring a safe and smooth celebration, deploying a special unit called “Hijos-Pulis” along the route.
The Department of Health (DOH) will also station more than 200 health emergency response teams from various hospitals to assist anyone who may need medical attention.
The Traslacion isn’t just a religious event—it’s a cultural experience. Last year, around eight million devotees participated, making it a moving display of faith, music, community, and tradition.
Church leaders and local authorities expect another massive turnout in 2026 and are urging everyone to follow safety guidelines while joining the festivities.
Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned participant, the Traslacion is a unique opportunity to witness Filipino devotion and tradition in full display.
