Former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III said he is currently “just waiting” for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive on where he will be reassigned following his removal as PNP chief due to “policy differences.”
In an exclusive interview on DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan, Torre shared that he fully respects the President’s decision and is ready to serve wherever he is needed.
"President had made a choice na ito dito ka muna at relax ka muna diyan at maghahanap tayo ng ibang pwesto para sa’yo," Torre said.
“It’s always the President’s choice, tayo ay lingkod bayan at ako ay naghihintay lamang [ng] order o utos ng aking Commander in Chief,” he added.
When asked about the reason for his removal in post, Torre reiterated Marcos' reasons for his removal in post.
“The President [has] already made [that] very, very clear on his podcast. Ayun na lang kung ano ang sinabi ng Presidente ‘yun na po iyon at wala namang iba talaga. ‘Yun naman talaga ang totoo,” he said. "Policy differences with the Napolcom."
When asked whether he has plans to run for senator in the next elections, Torre only laughed and said it was not part of his plans at the moment.
Currently on “floating status,” Torre said he is keeping himself busy by focusing on his advocacy against bullying — a cause he says is deeply personal to him.
Torre opened up about his own experiences with bullying, saying it started in his childhood and continued even during his time as PNP chief.
“Pati mga anak ko naging victims of bullying, ako, noong bata pa ako, naging biktima ng bullying, hanggang sa ako’y Chief PNP na nga, binubully pa rin. We are being bullied — nakita niyo naman sa social media,” he said. “That brings me to the new phenomenon na ang bullying hindi lang sa mga kabataan natin.”
Inspired by these experiences, Torre launched a campaign called “Takbo Laban sa mga Bully," a run-for-a-cause event scheduled for November 16 in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
According to Torre, proceeds from the event will be used to help communities affected by recent typhoons.
Earlier, Malacañang confirmed that Marcos will offer a new government position to the former PNP Chief.
