An apartment along Tayuman Street in Manila collapsed around 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, after it was previously damaged by a tornado on Aug. 9.

According to a report by RH Tina Nolasco, a barangay watchman from Barangay 353 and several residents said that parts of the rental building gave way following days of rain and due to the structure's age.

Five families were affected when the apartment was hit by the tornado on Aug. 9, forcing them to evacuate.

The building owner had earlier decided to have the old structure demolished as a safety precaution.

Cleanup operations are ongoing as workers remove debris and other collapsed portions of the apartment.

Barangay personnel have also been deployed to guard the area and prevent possible theft.
