Choi Seung Hyun, better known as T.O.P and a former member of K-pop powerhouse BIGBANG, has officially announced his return to music after more than a decade away from solo releases.
On January 1, the rapper surprised fans by unveiling a comeback teaser on Instagram. The short clip featured a man writing the phrases “TOP SPOT” and “ANOTHER DIMENSION,” with the latter presented in Korean text. Paired with a dark, atmospheric beat, the teaser offered a glimpse into the tone of his upcoming music.
T.O.P further fueled anticipation by confirming the project in the post’s caption, writing, “A NEW ALBUM IS ON THE WAY, TOP SPOT - 다중관점 [ANOTHER DIMENSION].”
The announcement quickly sent fans into a frenzy, as the artist has not released solo material since his 2013 digital single Doom Dada. The forthcoming album will mark his first solo comeback in 13 years and arrives during a milestone year, coinciding with BIGBANG’s 20th debut anniversary. T.O.P originally debuted with the group in 2006 and officially departed in 2023, with Still Life in 2022 serving as his final group release.
The rapper largely withdrew from the public eye following a drug-related controversy and the completion of his mandatory military service. In 2017, he received a 10-month suspended prison sentence after admitting to marijuana use, which led to a prolonged pause in his entertainment career.
In February 2020, during an Instagram Live session, T.O.P openly expressed his decision to step away from the industry, stating, “I won't make a Korean comeback. I don't want to make any comeback... They're so evil. People.”
However, that position appeared to soften in late December 2024 when he made an on-screen return through the Netflix series Squid Game 2. Portraying the character Thanos, T.O.P marked his first acting role in years, followed shortly by his first media interview in over 11 years—signaling a gradual return to the spotlight.
