Residents in Tondo, Manila, have begun stockpiling water in preparation for the expected effects of Super El Niño in the country.
Residents of Barangay 199 told DZRH News that they had received advisories from water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) about scheduled water service interruptions in their area. According to the residents, the water supply is cut off between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. and restored at around 5 a.m. the following day.
To prepare for the nightly interruptions, families have been finding ways to store enough water for their daily needs before the supply is cut off.
Residents have adopted various methods to conserve and store water, including reusing empty containers and recycled mineral water bottles.
One resident, identified as Aling Lita, said she reuses old mineral water containers to store clean water for cooking, bathing and other household needs.
“Dito sa amin sa Barangay 199, pagdating ng alas-11, pinapatay na yung tubig, tapos pagdating ng alas-5, binubuksan,” Lita said.
