A ride-hailing driver surrendered to authorities Monday night following a viral "gas-and-run" incident at a local fueling station, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said.

The 27-year-old suspect, identified as a Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) driver, turned himself in to QCPD Station 1 at 8:00 p.m., accompanied by members of his family. The surrender comes after the driver allegedly fled a gas station on EDSA early Sunday morning after requesting a full tank of diesel for his multi-purpose vehicle.

According to police reports, the driver sped off without settling a fuel bill totaling ₱5,196, leaving the pump attendant unable to intercept him.

Investigators used CCTV backtracking and coordination with various agencies to identify the white vehicle and trace it to the suspect’s residence in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

Police Brig. Gen. Randy Silvio, QCPD director, stated that the suspect had stopped driving and avoided social media after the incident went viral.

While the driver claimed he was unaware that authorities were actively searching for him, he reportedly told officials that financial hardship and a lack of take-home pay for his family prompted the act.

The QCPD is moving forward with the filing of an estafa case against the driver through the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. The vehicle involved in the incident remains in police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
