A lighthearted exchange took place in the Senate on Tuesday, July 28, before Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano delivered his Contra-State of the Nation Address (SONA), as he jokingly urged Senate President Win Gatchalian to "settle down" and get married.
Cayetano began by congratulating Gatchalian for his speech during the previous day's SONA proceedings before teasing the Senate leader over his bachelor status.
“May I congratulate also the Senate President for his speech yesterday. Akma talaga sa panahon. Thank you for reminding us to settle down. May we also remind you to settle down since you're still single,” Cayetano said, drawing laughter from those present.
Gatchalian responded in jest, saying, “Mahirap yata 'yun, Minority Leader.”
Cayetano quickly replied, “Mahirap na masaya.”
The brief exchange drew smiles inside the Senate session hall before lawmakers proceeded with the day's proceedings and Cayetano formally delivered his Contra-SONA, where he discussed issues on governance, agriculture, corruption, and the economy.
