Scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms will persist on Saturday, January 3, as three weather systems — the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan), the Easterlies, and a shear line — continue to affect the country, PAGASA reported.

No cyclones or low-pressure areas are currently being monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The Northeast Monsoon brings cool, strong winds across Luzon, particularly in Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, and parts of Mimaropa, where heavy rainfall is expected.

The Easterlies — hot and humid air from the Pacific Ocean — influence Mindanao, triggering showers in coastal and lowland areas.

Meanwhile, the shear line, forming at the tail end of the Amihan, affects Visayas and Palawan, bringing scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms.

According to PAGASA weather specialist, Chanel Dominguez, Metro Manila temperatures are forecast to range between 22°C and 28°C. Other readings include Tuguegarao at 20°C to 28°C, Baguio 14°C to 20°C, Tagaytay 21°C to 26°C, Legazpi 24°C to 30°C, and Davao 24°C to 32°C.

In the Visayas and Palawan, heavy rains are expected along the shear line, with Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban seeing temperatures between 25°C and 30°C.

Due to strong winds from the Northeast Monsoon, PAGASA has raised gale warnings for the following areas in the Northern and Eastern Luzon, including:

• Batanes

• Cagayan

• Babuyan Islands

• Isabela

• Ilocos Norte

• Ilocos Sur

• Aurora

• Camarines Norte

• Camarines Sur

• Catanduanes

• Albay

• Sorsogon

• Northern Samar

• Eastern Samar

Fishermen and operators of small vessels are advised to exercise caution.
