Three individuals were injured after an armed encounter erupted during a police hot pursuit operation along the southbound lane of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Toll Plaza in Bocaue, Bulacan, on Friday afternoon, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

In a statement, the PNP said police units launched the operation on June 26 after receiving information linking the suspects to a series of robbery incidents reported in previous days.

According to the initial police report, the operation escalated into a shootout when the suspects allegedly opened fire on responding officers.

"Based on the initial report, police units were carrying out a hot pursuit operation after receiving information that the individuals involved were allegedly connected to robbery incidents reported in previous days. During the operation, the suspects reportedly fired at the responding officers, prompting the operating team to return fire," the PNP said.

Authorities have secured the area, while investigators and Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) personnel continue processing the scene and collecting evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the encounter.

The PNP said the investigation remains ongoing and appealed to the public to refrain from speculation while authorities complete their inquiry.

"At this point, the investigation is still ongoing, and we ask the public to allow the authorities to complete the investigation. We also encourage everyone to rely only on verified information and avoid speculation while the investigation is underway," the PNP said.
