Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday expressed support for the revelations made in the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing by the surpise witness, former Philippine Marine Sergeant Orly Guteza, who alleged that multiple suitcases filled with cash were routinely delivered to the residence of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

In a social media post, Duterte said the allegations align with previous reports linking Romualdez to bribery and corruption controversies.

"Nang ako'y tanungin kaninang umaga kung naniniwala ba ako sa mga pahayag ukol sa sangkatutak na mga maleta ng perang hinahatid umano sa bahay ni Martin Romualdez, ang naging sagot ko ay "Oo," Duterte said.

"Sapagkat ito ay tugma sa mga napabalita na noong pagtanggap niya ng suhol,” she added.

The Vice President emphasized that Romualdez’s name “has surfaced time and again whenever questions of corruption are raised.

She cited an example the Delaware Court proceedings involving Okada Manila, where Romualdez was repeatedly mentioned.

"In fact, a reading of the Delaware Court’s ruling in 26 Capital Corp. v. Tiger Resort Asia Ltd. shows that Romualdez was named no less than 17 times — with references even to ‘heavy luggage’ allegedly delivered to him as part of questionable dealings," Duterte said.

She dismissed claims that the "heavy luggage" contained only documents, describing such explanations as "implausible."

"These are not mere coincidences — they form a disturbing pattern. At itong disturbing pattern na ito ang nagbibigay ng kredibilidad sa testimonya ni Sgt. Guteza ukol sa mga maleta ng "basura" na inihahatid kay Martin Romualdez linggo-linggo," she emphasized.

The Vice President also questioned President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s decision to keep Romualdez in power as Speaker of the House, despite the issues surrounding him.

"I have repeatedly questioned the judgment of President Marcos in choosing Martin Romualdez as Speaker — especially after the Delaware Court ruling. Sadly, the President continues to display this flawed judgment, merely reshuffling Congress leadership while maintaining control over the so-called ‘Independent Commission on Infrastructure," Duterte remarked.

Duterte also warned that "one day, the floodwaters of truth and accountability will flow all the way to Malacañang. And on that day, the Filipino people will finally decide that we deserve better."

The surprise witness, Guteza, earlier revealed that he had personally delivered multiple suitcases of cash to the residences of Romualdez and resigned Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co.
