Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. is not closing the door on any opportunity, including a possible run for president in the 2028 elections, but said he is currently focused on his duties as defense chief.
In an interview with DZRH's Dos Por Dos on Friday, Teodoro said he remains open to whatever opportunities may come his way, including a possible run for president.
“Bukas lahat ng oportunidad. Hindi ko isasara ‘yung pintuan sa kahit na anong humarap sa akin na oportunidad na ginawad ng Diyos, ginawad ng taumbayan sa atin,” Teodoro said.
However, Teodoro said he is not yet ready to decide whether he will seek higher office in 2028, noting that he still has many responsibilities to accomplish as Defense Secretary.
“Sa ngayon hindi pa ako handang magdesisyon dahil ang dami ko pang tatapusin,” he said.
For now, Teodoro said he would continue to focus on his work and leave any possible political plans for the future.
Teodoro stressed that his priority for now is his current job and the issues facing the country, saying it would not be beneficial to focus on politics while he is carrying out his responsibilities.
He acknowledged that there may come a time when he will have to decide on his next political move, but said such a decision must be carefully considered.
“Maybe there will come a time, kailangan kong magdesisyon sa susunod na pakay ng buhay ko,” Teodoro said, adding that he would have to determine what decision is appropriate for the time and where he would best fit.
Asked when he would stop people from urging him to run for president, Teodoro replied: “Hindi ko paparahin kahit sino man.”
