More than 1,100 members of the electoral board serving in the special elections for the 2nd Legislative District of Antipolo City will receive their honoraria immediately after completing their duties on Saturday, March 14.

According to George Erwin Garcia, Chairperson of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), teachers who served during the special polls will be given their honoraria as soon as they return the election paraphernalia used in their respective precincts.

Garcia said the immediate release of compensation is part of the poll body's initiative to ensure that teachers no longer have to wait several days or weeks before receiving their pay.

“Gusto kong sabihin, magandang announcement din ito, na ngayong gabi rin, pagka nadeliver nila yung gamit na ginamit sa bawat presinto, ibibigay na namin yung honoraria ng mga guro. In fact, sa buong Pilipinas, sa mga susunod na halalan, ganoon na ’yung gagawin natin. Wala na ’yung mga 10 days o 15 days,” Garcia said.

“Mamayang gabi tanggap na nila lahat ng honoraria nila,“ he added.

The COMELEC also said each teacher serving in the special elections will also receive an additional ₱2,000.

“Dinagdagan po natin ng ₱2,000 bawat isa, ’yan din po ang kikitain nila ngayong araw ng paglilingkod nila,” he said.

Garcia explained that the poll body decided to provide the same level of compensation given to teachers who served during the 2025 Philippine National and Local Elections.

“Minarapat natin na kung ano ang tinanggap ng mga guro noong 2025 NLE, ganoon din ang matatanggap ng mga guro sa Antipolo Special election,” Garcia said.

Voting began early Saturday for the special election in Antipolo City’s 2nd Legislative District to fill the congressional seat left vacant following the death of former representative Romeo Acop in December 2025.

Earlier in the day, Garcia personally witnessed the voting of 234 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Antipolo City Jail, which was scheduled to run until noon.

The PDL voters form part of the 252,793 registered voters from eight barangays in the district who are eligible to participate in the special polls, according to COMELEC.

Garcia said the poll body is targeting a voter turnout of around 64 percent.

Voting is being conducted in 37 polling centers across the district, including San Jose National High School in Barangay San Jose and San Roque National High School, where priority voting began early Saturday morning.

The special election aims to ensure that the district maintains representation in the House of Representatives of the Philippines.

A total of six candidates are vying for the vacant congressional seat, including Philip 'Dok Bong' Acop, the son of the late lawmaker.
