Several schools in Tarlac suspended onsite classes and tightened security on Tuesday, June 23, after bomb threats triggered lockdowns and forced evacuations while authorities conducted inspections.
Tarlac State University (TSU) suspended midyear classes, enrollment, and other on-campus activities after receiving an undisclosed bomb threat earlier in the day, according to a statement from the university and reports from its publication, The Work.
Campus security personnel ordered students to leave and conducted room-to-room inspections as police began an investigation.
“All campuses of TSU were put on immediate lockdown,” the university said, adding that face-to-face classes and office transactions were suspended pending further notice from the Office of the University President.
Students described confusion and concern as they were instructed to leave campus shortly after arriving, while others were advised by guards to go home as a safety measure.
TSU security personnel said they immediately secured the premises and evacuated students after receiving the alert. Authorities have not yet released findings on the origin or credibility of the threat.
The university is the third educational institution in the province targeted this week, following similar incidents at the College of the Holy Spirit of Tarlac (CHST) and a private school in Barangay San Rafael.
Initial reports also indicated that other schools in Tarlac City received similar threats.
Meanwhile, Creston Academy announced it will shift to online learning from Wednesday to Friday due to the security situation concerning circulating alleged bomb threats.
In a statement, the school said class schedules and arrangements will vary per grade level and will be coordinated through class advisers.
“The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff remain our highest priority,” Creston Academy said.
The Tarlac Police Provincial Office has yet to release official results of its ongoing investigation.
