A tanker truck overturned along Aurora Boulevard near the Altura area in Manila early Tuesday morning, January 13, causing road closures, heavy traffic, and injuries to 1 of motorists.

In a report by RH Boy Gonzales on Damdaming Bayan, the incident occurred at around 5:00 a.m. when the truck, reportedly carrying a large load of glucose, lost balance and tipped over due to the weight of its cargo.

As a result, glucose spilled onto the roadway, making the road surface slippery.

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), at least 40 motorists slipped and figured in minor accidents because of the slick road conditions.

Meanwhile, one motorist was reported injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities immediately conducted flushing and cleaning operations, pumping water onto the affected area to remove the spilled substance and restore road safety.

The road was temporarily closed following the accident to allow clearing and cleanup operations.

As of 8:30 a.m., the overturned truck has since been lifted and cleared from the intersection of Altura and Magsaysay Boulevard.

Meanwhile, Joseph Bermundo of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s Western Traffic Enforcement District told DZRH that the driver of the overturned truck has already left the scene.

He confirmed that authorities have been unable to locate the driver following the incident, as the driver had departed before traffic officials arrived.

However, as of 9:00 a.m., traffic remained heavy along the westbound lane of Magsaysay Boulevard as authorities continued to manage the flow of vehicles and ensure the area was safe for motorists.

The Manila Police District (MPD) assisted in controlling the flow of traffic, together with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).
