The Taguig City government on Saturday denied involvement in alleged “illegal reclamation” activities in the city after Sen. Panfilo Lacson shared a video of an on-site inspection in the Taguig Lakeshore area.

In a statement dated October 3, the local government said the area shown in Lacson’s video does not involve any land currently possessed or being used by the City of Taguig.

According to the city government, the parcel shown in the video is being claimed by several private individuals and a neighborhood association.

Taguig also stressed that it “did not issue any permit or authority” to the alleged private owners for the activities being questioned.

The city government made the statement after Lacson posted a video showing a joint inspection conducted by the Office of the Ombudsman, Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA), Land Registration Authority (LRA), and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“Paging DENR and LLDA,” Lacson wrote in the caption of his post, alleging that “illegal reclamation” was continuing on the Taguig side of Laguna Lake.

“If this isn't a total display of impunity and disrespect for the law, I don't know what is,” Lacson said.

The senator also wrote: “Tuloy-tuloy ang illegal reclamation sa Taguig side ng Laguna Lake. Somebody feels he is above the law.”

In its response, Taguig accused Lacson of presenting a “misleading narrative” by linking the inspected area to the city government.

It urged the public to exercise caution and rely on verified evidence and official records when evaluating the allegations.

The city government also said it supports efforts to combat graft and corruption but stressed that such efforts must be based on facts and established evidence.

“Let us pursue the truth, uphold the rule of law, and hold accountable those who may have committed wrongdoing,” Taguig said.
