The driver of an SUV involved in a vehicular crash in Marikina City on June 13 was reportedly identified as the City’s vice mayor’s son. He will face a homicide case following the victim’s death after a week of medical treatment, according to a report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.
The victim, Alexander Cruz, was a teacher at the Pamantasang Lungsod ng Marikina. He was riding a motorcycle at the intersection of Russet Street and General Ordoñez Avenue, Barangay Concepcion Dos early Saturday morning when the SUV rammed into him.
As seen from the CCTV footage, the impact threw Cruz off the motorcycle. He spent a week in a coma at an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) before he passed away on Monday, June 22.
The SUV driver was identified as David de Guzman, who is purportedly the son of Marikina’s vice mayor, Del de Guzman. He was initially charged with reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injury.
However, speaking to DZRH, Marikina City Police Chief PCol. Jenny Tecson said de Guzman was freed after posting bail.
With Cruz’s death, the police are now preparing the supplemental homicide case against de Guzman.
