A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near the entrance of the Department of Justice (DOJ) building along Padre Faura Street in Ermita, Manila early Monday, July 27, the agency said.

In a statement, the DOJ said the explosion occurred at around 12:17 a.m., allegedly caused by an improvised explosive device placed near the department’s entrance.

“At approximately 12:17 a.m. today, 27 July 2026, an explosion, allegedly caused by an improvised explosive device, occurred near the entrance of the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Padre Faura Street, Ermita,” the DOJ said.

The agency said no casualties were reported following the incident.

“There are no reported casualties, and the PNP-EOD Unit was immediately notified and responded to conduct a technical examination,” the DOJ said.

The DOJ said the situation is now under control and that its compound remains secure as authorities continue their investigation to determine the source, type, and other details surrounding the explosion.

“The situation is currently under control, and the DOJ compound remains secure. The DOJ remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of its personnel and the general public, while supporting a comprehensive and impartial investigation,” the agency added.

Meanwhile, the Southern Police District (SPD) confirmed that an improvised explosive device was also recovered near the Senate complex on Monday morning.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the origin of the suspected explosive device and determine those responsible.
