The Southern Police District (SPD) has identified the suspect in Wednesday night’s shooting incident inside the Senate building, authorities said.

SPD confirmed to DZRH News that the suspect is Mel Oragon, 44, a driver for the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), as reported by RH Jecelle Ricafort.

Police said Oragon has already undergone a paraffin examination as investigators continue to determine the motive behind the incident.

Based on initial findings, at around 7:50 p.m. on May 13, the suspect allegedly carried a firearm and discharged several shots inside the Senate building, triggering alarm and panic among senators and personnel present at the time.

Pasay City Police Station chief Col. Joselito Disesto said he could neither confirm nor deny reports that the suspect is already in police custody, noting that he was being transported to Camp Crame.

There is currently no reported tension or disturbance outside the Senate building following the incident.
