Several environmental advocacy groups raised concerns on Sunday about the growing number of reclamation projects in the country.
PAMALAKAYA stated that its issues will be brought to the national stage in time for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s second State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Before Marcos SONA, groups of fishermen and environmentalists indicated they would travel around the country to speak out against reclamation projects.
PAMALAKAYA announced the commencement of their campaign, "Defend Manila Bay Network," which will focus on halting reclamation and dredging activities in Manila Bay.
It stated that it wishes to bring to the public's attention the fact that reclamation projects may be found not just in Metro Manila but also in Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Bataan.
Meanwhile, during a two-day Anti-Reclamation Summit, a manifesto was signed to further oppose reclamation efforts.
Some members of the Save Gubat Bay Movement attended the summit and recounted their experiences of triumph in averting reclamation projects in some barangays in Gubat, Sorsogon, owing to coastal road development projects.
Despite the fact that they have already won in their book, they stated that they will not be complacent because other reclamation operations in Sorsogon are still ongoing.
According to PRA statistics, the country now has 24 reclamation projects in place, but this number could rise as there are still 147 applications being reviewed.
