The Supreme Court (SC) has directed the House of Representatives and other respondents to submit their comments within 10 days on Vice President Sara Duterte’s petition questioning the constitutionality of ongoing impeachment proceedings against her.
In a press statement released on April 8, 2026, the SC en banc said it consolidated two related cases—G.R. No. E-05546 (Atty. Israelito P. Torreon, et al. v. House of Representatives Committee on Justice) and G.R. No. E-05667 (Sara Z. Duterte v. House of Representatives).
While the petitions were not immediately given due course, the Court emphasized that the respondents must adhere to the non-extendible 10-day deadline for their submissions.
The petitions challenge the legality of the hearings conducted by the House Committee on Justice concerning the impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Duterte, raising questions about the proper constitutional process.
No further actions on the petitions were announced, and the SC’s directive marks an early procedural step in what could become a significant constitutional review involving the nation’s vice presidency.
