The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) on Thursday led the groundbreaking ceremony for a new township project that will deliver around 1,400 low-cost housing units inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, as reported by RH Leth Narciso.
The project forms part of the government’s Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program, which aims to address the country’s housing backlog by providing affordable and sustainable communities for low-income families.
First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos attended the ceremony and expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the importance of building not just homes but livable communities.
The First Lady said the township is designed to provide a safe environment for children, including the establishment of a daycare center to help working parents balance employment and childcare responsibilities.
According to DHSUD, the development seeks to ease the shortage of affordable housing in the country by offering accessible residential units within a planned community. Once completed, the project is expected to benefit hundreds of families in need of secure and decent shelter in the area.
Officials said the initiative reflects the administration’s continuing efforts to expand housing opportunities and improve living conditions for Filipino families, particularly those with limited income.
