A power pole carrying two transformers collapsed amid strong winds in Barangay 184, Pasay City, damaging a house and raising concerns over possible power interruptions in the community, RH Jecelle Ricafort reported.
Barangay 184 Captain Julie Barrameda told DZRH News that the incident occurred after residents heard a loud crashing sound during intense winds. Barangay personnel later discovered that an old Meralco power pole had fallen and landed on a house.
Barrameda said the fallen pole also came into contact with live electrical wires, creating a serious safety hazard for residents in the area. Around 500 households, including the barangay hall, could potentially lose power because of the incident.
Residents were advised to temporarily switch off their circuit breakers to minimize the risk of electrical accidents while authorities addressed the situation.
The area near St. Peter at PAL Gate 2 was also cordoned off due to concerns that the damaged electrical infrastructure could pose further danger to residents, motorists, and nearby properties.
Barrameda appealed to Meralco to immediately respond to the situation and secure the live wires.
“Malakas na malakas na hangin. Sabay nakarinig kami ng malakas na pagbagsak,” Barrameda said, recounting how residents discovered the fallen pole.
She emphasized that the pole was an old Meralco structure carrying a transformer and warned of the danger posed by the live wires after the collapse.
“Parang awa niyo po, Meralco. Please lang po. Kung gaano kayo kabilis mamutol, sana ngayon po kailangan namin ang tulong ninyo,” Barrameda appealed.
Authorities continue to secure the affected area as residents await the restoration and stabilization of the electrical lines. The incident underscores the hazards posed by aging electrical infrastructure during periods of strong winds and severe weather.
