Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said reports that the International Criminal Court (ICC) may issue arrest warrants against Senators Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and Christopher “Bong” Go are “not urgent” and remain speculative at this stage.

Sotto clarified that the Senate has not discussed the matter and no caucus has been called, stressing that lawmakers will only take it up if an official warrant of arrest is issued. “Hindi pa ito pinag-uusapan dahil wala namang kumpirmadong warrant,” he said.

The development follows reports that the ICC Office of the Prosecutor recommended the inclusion of dela Rosa and Go, along with others, as alleged co-conspirators of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in connection with the administration’s controversial anti-drug campaign. The ICC has been conducting an investigation into alleged crimes against humanity linked to the government’s war on drugs, which drew international scrutiny over thousands of reported deaths during police operations.

Dela Rosa, who served as Philippine National Police (PNP) chief during the height of the anti-drug campaign, and Go, a former presidential aide before becoming senator, have repeatedly denied wrongdoing. Philippine authorities have maintained that the country’s justice system is functioning and capable of handling such cases domestically.

Sotto emphasized that until an official action is taken by the ICC, discussions within the Senate remain premature.
