Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III expressed confidence that he will remain in his post after the Senate Minority bloc failed to gather enough support to replace him.

Sotto revealed that Senator Loren Legarda declined an offer from the Minority to assume the Senate presidency. He also downplayed a Facebook post by Senator Kiko Pangilinan showing members of the Majority bloc with the caption “Power Sharing,” saying it was made in jest.

Earlier in the day, observers were surprised to see Legarda seated as presiding officer following a lengthy suspension of the session. Sotto clarified, however, that Legarda was only asked to preside briefly to adjourn the session.

The Senate is set to resume its session on Monday, with Sotto expected to continue leading the chamber.

The development comes amid political maneuvering within the Senate, as factions attempt to reorganize leadership positions ahead of upcoming legislative priorities.
