Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano said efforts are being made to prevent the continuation of scheduled Senate hearings, alleging that some parties are attempting to take control of committee proceedings.
In a Facebook Live broadcast on Wednesday, June 3, Cayetano said the ongoing tensions center on the Blue Ribbon Committee, which is expected to conduct successive hearings on issues involving alleged irregularities.
“Talagang lahat ay ginagawa para hindi matuloy ang sunod-sunod na mga hearing kung saan ang katotohanan at buong katotohanan ay lalabas,” Cayetano said.
He also clarified that if opposing senators walk out or disrupt proceedings, their group may resort to parliamentary procedures to maintain order and protect the inquiry.
“Kung sila ay nag-walkout, kami naman ay gumamit din ng parliamentary tool na hindi magkaroon ng quorum para nga maprotektahan ang katotohanan,” he added.
Cayetano emphasized that such measures are part of the Senate’s rules-based processes and are intended to ensure that the hearings proceed without being derailed.
He also called on the public to pray not only for the lawmakers involved but for the country as a whole, saying the situation represents a critical moment in national decision-making.
“There are times in history where we're in a crossroad,” he said, stressing that decisions made at this stage could have long-term consequences for future generations, particularly in addressing corruption.
Cayetano added that choices made at the individual level eventually influence group, institutional, and national decisions, underscoring the importance of accountability in governance.
