Sotto leadership eyes livestreaming of budget deliberations for public
by Mary Antalan09 September 2025

Newly proclaimed Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III expressed his commitment to transparency by proposing to livestream the budget deliberations of Congress.

In an interview on DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan on Tuesday, Sotto revealed that he had spoken with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. about the matter during an event two weeks ago.

"Gagawin naming open to the public yung mga deliberations ng budget, lahat ng departamento dapat 'yan open tapos pagdating sa Bicam open din," said Sotto.

Under his leadership, Sotto vowed to prevent a repeat of what happened in 2025, when alleged insertions were made in the budget during the bicameral conference after the third reading.

"Bawal na ang insertion, dapat institutional amendment," said Sotto.

He explained that in an institutional amendment, the author of the requested insertion will be known and properly recorded.

On Monday, Sotto replaced Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero as Senate President. Later, he announced that Sen. Rodante Marcoleta will be replaced by Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson as chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, based on the recommendation of the majority.

Meanwhile, Sotto confirmed that Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian will remain as chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance.

Sotto added that Lacson will continue the investigation into the alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
