Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said on Monday that government agencies’ implementation will determine whether the 2026 National Budget is 'corruption-free.'
In an ambush interview, Sotto emphasized that the Senate has done everything to ensure transparency in the formulation of the 2026 National Budget, which amounts to ₱6.793 trillion.
“It depends on how it's implemented, but we will be exercising [the] overside function overly. So, that we can at least try to achieve that particular percentage of anti-corruption,” Sotto said.
The Senate, Sotto noted, will closely monitor fund utilization through its oversight functions.
Regular meetings of the Senate Committee on Finance may be conducted to ensure agencies handling significant funds are kept accountable—particularly those embroiled in controversial issues.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, reported that three sectors have been prioritized in the 2026 budget: Education, Health, and Agriculture.
