Tingog Party-list Representative Jude Acidre described Senator Imee Marcos’s Charter change video presented during Monday’s Senate plenary as a “political fiction,” saying it was meant to divert public attention from the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

According to a "Rapido Hataw Balita" report by RH Milky Rigonan, Acidre said the video contained unsubstantiated claims and relied on hearsay, stressing that no concrete evidence was presented to support the allegations raised.

He also criticized the timing and content of the video, saying it was irresponsible for the senator to raise such matters while the Senate is expected to focus on the impending impeachment proceedings involving Duterte.

According to Acidre, discussions on Charter change are not currently active in either chamber of Congress. He added that the issue is not even being widely discussed in public or in recent news, making the senator’s claims questionable.

“Hindi naman napag-usapan ang Charter change. Not in the House, not in the Senate. Not even in the news,” Acidre said, adding that constitutional reform is not part of current legislative priorities.

He also noted that members of Congress were surprised by the shift in focus toward Cha-cha instead of the impeachment trial, which he said is the more pressing issue in the Senate.

Acidre further expressed concern that a sitting lawmaker could be spreading what he described as fake news, suggesting it could be an attempt to delay or derail the impeachment process against the Vice President.

This follows Senator Marcos’ accusation on Monday that the current administration is pushing for charter change and a possible extension of officials’ terms or “no elections“ scenario in 2028.
