Six repatriated overseas Filipinos from the Russian Federation returned to the Philippines on Sunday, June 21, 2026, after nearly nine months of detention, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

They arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 and were met by officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), DMW, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), following diplomatic coordination between the Philippine government and Russia at the leadership level.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa “Tess” Lazaro said their return marked a significant development.

The DMW said the circumstances of their detention remain under verification, with initial information indicating a possible immigration violation. Authorities are also gathering statements from the repatriated Filipinos to clarify the case and determine appropriate assistance.

“Napakalaking bagay na nakauwi na sila nang ligtas. Almost nine months silang na-detain, kaya kailangan talaga silang maalalayan,” Lazaro stated.

The DMW said it will provide continued assistance, including financial, legal, employment facilitation, and livelihood support for their reintegration.
