

Two people died, while five were wounded from a shooting incident in Silay, Negros Occidental on early Monday, May 12.
RH 46 Rex Cantong reported that seven people were targeted in a shooting incident right before the precincts in Silay, Negros Occidental opened. The victims were shot outside a former Silay City mayor’s headquarters, the incumbent Mayor Joedith Gallego confirmed.
According to the report, the victims were assigned to monitor incidents of vote buying in the area. The seven individuals were on duty when the incident occurred.
The Silay City Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Lt. Col. Mark Darroca said the witness was able to identify the suspect. This was also seconded by one of the victims, stating he knows who the suspect is.
The victims were rushed to the Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital after the incident. Meanwhile, six of them will be transferred to the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod.
Two victims reportedly died due to the incident.
Authorities said that they were able to identify one of the victims who died. Based on the Silay City PNP’s spot report, the suspect is believed to be the barangay chairman of Bangaray Lantad.
Other details, such the the suspect’s motive and the names of the other victims, have yet to be identified by authorities.
