Universal Pictures together with DreamWorks Animation have released the official teaser trailer for the upcoming animated film 'Shrek 5.'

“It's happening... it's really happening! Experience Shrek 5 only in cinemas summer 2027,” Universal Pictures wrote on its social media pages on Tuesday.

The teaser shows the return of Shrek, Fiona and Donkey as they are pulled into a new adventure. The footage also highlights Shrek and Princess Fiona’s children joining the story, with the family quickly finding themselves in trouble.

The “Shrek” franchise follows the story of a green ogre named Shrek and his journey through fairy tale-inspired worlds. Over the series, he marries Princess Fiona of Far Far Away, while Donkey serves as his loyal and fast-talking companion.

The original voice cast is set to return, including Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona.

New cast member Zendaya joins the franchise as Felicia, the daughter of Shrek and Fiona, expanding the story to the next generation of the ogre family.

The last installment in the main series, “Shrek Forever After,” was released in 2010. In that film, Shrek becomes overwhelmed with family responsibilities and is tricked by Rumpelstiltskin into abandoning his life for an alternate reality, before ultimately restoring his original world.

Shrek 5 is scheduled to be released in Philippine cinemas in 2027.
