Peter Groseclose capped a remarkable day at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand by capturing the gold medal in the Men’s 500m Short Track Speed Skating, less than an hour after earning silver in the Men’s 1500m at the IWIS International Ice Skating Training Center in Samut Prakan.
Fresh from a hard-fought race in the longer distance, Groseclose returned to the ice unfazed by fatigue. In the 500m event, he took control early and led from start to finish, executing a wire-to-wire performance that left little room for challenge.
This time, he successfully held off Thai skater Chatthaisong, who had earlier benefited from home-ice advantage.
The gold medal completed a double-podium day for Groseclose, adding to the silver he secured in the Men’s 1500m.
In that earlier race, Groseclose was within striking distance of the top spot but was edged out by a local favorite, settling for second place.
With a silver followed quickly by a gold, Groseclose delivered one of the standout performances of the short track speed skating competitions at the Games.
