The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) observed an episode of “incandescent short-lived lava fountaining” at Mayon Volcano early Tuesday morning, January 13.

According to PHIVOLCS, lava was observed shooting up to approximately 100 meters from the summit crater at around 1:39 a.m. The volcanic activity lasted for about 35 seconds before subsiding.

Earlier, PHIVOLCS also recorded heightened volcanic activity at Mayon, including 206 rockfall events and 63 pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), locally known as “uson.” These events indicate ongoing instability at the volcano, which continues to show signs of unrest.

In addition, the agency noted the continued extrusion of a lava dome and active lava flows, further underscoring the volcano’s elevated activity level.

Mayon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3.

Authorities have reiterated the strict prohibition on entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ). The public is also warned against unprotected access to the Extended Danger Zone (EDZ), while flights of any aircraft over the volcano remain strictly prohibited.

Meanwhile, the Albay Public Safety Emergency and Management Office (APSEMO) reported that as of January 12, 2026, a total of 1,133 families, or 4,039 individuals, are currently staying in evacuation centers across Albay province due to Mayon Volcano’s continued unrest.
