A 78-year-old woman identified by the police as Alyas “Belen” died after she was struck by a tricycle in Barangay Tunga-tunga, Maasin City, Southern Leyte, on the evening of December 10.

Police identified the driver as Alyas “Carlo,” 47, a married tricycle driver from Bactul I. According to the Maasin City Police investigation, the suspect was on his way to the hospital when he accidentally hit the victim, who was crossing the road around 6:55 p.m.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The suspect is currently detained at the Maasin City Police Station’s custodial facility as authorities prepare appropriate charges.
