Senator Jinggoy Estrada has filed Senate Resolution No. 210 seeking to formally commend and honor Filipino athletes who represented the country in the recently concluded 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
Estrada said the recognition is meant for all athletes, whether medalists or not, who dedicated years of training, discipline, and sacrifice in proudly carrying the Philippine flag on the regional stage. He emphasized that every athlete who competed contributed to the nation’s pride and sporting legacy.
Team Philippines finished sixth overall in the medal standings and fourth in total medal count, earning 50 gold, 73 silver, and 154 bronze medals, trailing only host Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
Among the athletes cited for outstanding performances were tennis star Alex Eala, pole vault champion EJ Obiena, beach volleyball standouts Sisi Rondina, Bernadeth Pons, Dij Rodriguez, and Sunny Villapando, swimmer Kayla Noelle Sanchez, the national baseball and softball teams known as the Blu Boys and Blu Girls, and 11-year-old skateboarder Mazel Paris Alegado, who made history as the youngest gold medalist in the games.
Also commended was Gilas Pilipinas, which successfully defended its basketball championship title against Thailand.
Estrada noted that each medal earned represents years of discipline, perseverance, and belief in oneself, stressing that the nation remains proud of its athletes for their dedication and excellence on the international stage.
