Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero has called for an investigation and a review of security protocols at the construction site following the fatal fall of a Navy civilian staff member in the new Senate building.
“It is with deep sorrow and concern that we confirm the tragic incident that occurred last night involving an individual who fell from the construction site of the Senate building along Chino Roces Ave., Extension, Brgy. Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City,” Senate spokesperson Atty. Arnel Jose Bañas said in a statement on Friday.
The Senate extended their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and cited that the Senate President has been ‘apprised’ of the incident.
“He [Senate President Escudero] immediately ordered a thorough investigation of the incident and a review of the security protocols in the construction site," Bañas said.
Additionally, the Senate instructed security to recheck and tighten control of all entrance and exit points to prevent unauthorized entry and loitering.
The Senate assured that it is taking the matter seriously and is fully supporting the ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances of the tragic incident.
On Friday, the Southern Police District confirmed that a male applicant of the Philippine Navy fell to its death in the construction site of the new Senate building on Thursday.
