The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee will be pressing on with its investigation into anomalous flood control projects despite Malacañang’s formation of an Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).

Newly-instated Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said the probe would persist in aid of legislation, meaning it would serve to gather insights into the controversy, informing the drafting and amendment of laws, reported RH 28 Raymund Dadpaas.

Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, who also chairs the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, agreed, saying there is no competition between the Senate and the Commission.

Rather, the two bodies will support each other in reaching their respective objectives, he said. Though the Senate inquiries are in aid of legislation, the committee may provide the commission with relevant information.

Likewise, the committee may request records that the commission acquires in connection with the case.

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearings will resume on September 18, and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral has been summoned, along with former DPWH assistant district engineer Brice Hernandez and the Discaya couple.
